What is Internal Medicine?

Internal medicine is a complex field involving almost everything internal to the human body. Those who specialize in internal medicine are experts at diagnosing problems, managing severe chronic illnesses, and providing comprehensive, longitudinal patient care. They are trained to look at the symptoms, form diagnoses, and utilize their extensive knowledge of many medical specialties to create a unique perspective of what is happening.

This unique perspective allows Dr. Fleagle Bender to take a deep dive into understanding, diagnosing, and identifying factors that can affect health from genetics, exposures, lifestyle, medication, and create a cohesive treatment plan for you.

Our Approach to Internal Medicine

Let’s give a real-life example. Let’s say that patient John Doe has high blood pressure. After running some tests, we will sit down together, discuss our options, and decide how we want to move forward.

We know that we can lower high blood pressure through a number of methods, including medication, lowering sodium intake, increased exercise, or adding milled flax to his diet. All these are evidence-based treatments that lower high blood pressure. We’ll present these options to John, and talk about what he’s comfortable with, as well as what is feasible for him to accomplish. Once we’ve created a custom plan together, we’ll track John’s progress, and fine-tune his plan as we start seeing results.

Complexity is what we do. We want to breathe life back into living, by correctly identifying factors that can be changed that bring meaningful improvements or cure. We will walk with you through the path of not knowing to a more clear and hopeful tomorrow. We want you to not just live, but feel alive!

Dr. Fleagle Bender is Board Certified

The American Board of Internal Medicine creates a standard for education, and a stamp of approval for physicians who meet this standard, and continue to advance their understanding the cutting-edge science and medicine.

Dr. Fleagle Bender strives to incorporate the evolving knowledge of medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and continues to participate in the Maintenance of Certification. This matters because certified physicians who participate in maintenance, provide better diabetic care, follow the best guidelines better, make sure women receive appropriate screening, are far less likely to face discipline from a state board of medicine, and save the U.S. taxpayers more than 5 billion dollars a year by providing cost-effective care.

In short, we provide better quality with better outcomes at a better cost to you.
